Characters in Costume Challenge

Gillian Adams is back, and the Characters in Costume Challenges have begun again! To learn more about the Challenges and how to participate, please go to her site: Of Battles, Dragons, and Swords of Adament.

This month, the character chosen was an obstacle character. What is an obstacle character?
An obstacle character is any character who stands in the way of the protagonist as he/she moves toward his/her goal. Obstacle characters are generally not the main antagonist, but could be anyone from a villain's minion to a random stranger in the street to the protagonist's best friend. Regardless of who the obstacle character is, his/her beliefs or own desires or goals set him/her in the protagonist's way.
Originally, I thought I would do a character from my own stories. But then I decided I didn't want to reveal too much about that character yet. Sorry.

Luckily, my friend in Washington and I took a Goldstone Wood photo-shoot, and here is the character I chose for this month!

 ROSE RED
Photographer: Missy
Model and fog effects: Myself
Rose Red is a veiled goat girl living up in the mountains of Southlands. When Leo discovers her, they become fast friends. But their friendship becomes strained as they grow and find the expectations of others pulling them apart...

Certainly, Rose Red doesn't seem like she should be an obstacle character! She's Leo's truest friend! But the Lady of Dreams whispers in Leo's mind that the goat girl stands in the way of his dream. Also, Daylily, his betrothed, sees Rosie as a threat to herself, and wishes Leo would send her away. As time passes and peril becomes ever more eminent, Leo is forced to choose between Rosie's friendship and the respect of his entire kingdom...

Read the story of Rose Red and Leo in Anne Elisabeth Stengl's books, Veiled Rose and Moonblood!

Note to Reader: This post was pre-scheduled. I won't be back to answer comments until at least the 23rd. Thank you!

Characters in Costume Challenge Reveal

It's the merry month of May, and today is the reveal of this month's challenge! The theme was Meet-A-Character, so I was free to choose any character I pleased, providing that I had the right costume, of course.

Gillian, who hosts this event over at her blog, has also revealed her character and has a list of all other participants. Go over and take a look!

So for this month, I chose...
Tellie
Yep, that's me dressed up as Tellie!
Tellie is a fourteen year old orphan with a feisty personality that can often get ahead of her. Her dreams of a loving family have been checked ever since she was adopted by the Nornes, who run the ramshackle inn at the small town of Denji. As the Nornes are overbearing masters, Tellie often escapes to meet her friend Kelm, a traveling merchant's apprentice, or to relax in the beautiful Shadowshade Forest. But one day, Tellie discovers a mysterious necklace, and the path of her life is forever changed...

Tellie is the main personality of my current work-in-progress, Moonscript, and her bright optimism, fiery tongue, and hopeful dreams make her a vivid contrast to Errance, the dark elven prince she is is determined to save.

April Antagonists - Characters in Costume Reveal

So this fun challenge is hosted every month by Gillian Adams on her "Battles, Dragons, and Swords of Adamant" blog. I thought it looked like a lot of fun, so I asked her if I could participate with a drawing since my costume supply is low. Well, I was never able to find the comment with my question so I assumed I hadn't published it. This morning on Gillian's blog, I saw that my blog was on the list of participants!!! So where that comment I asked went, I have no idea!

But without further ado, here is my entry in the "Characters in Costume Challenge - April Antagonists"

Lady Mordel

Lady Mordel is descended of a line of ancient kings and queens who once ruled over the alith land of Dormis. But long ago humans invaded the country engaging in savage battle with the aliths, resulting in the humans taking the throne.
That was hundreds of years ago, and aliths and humans now live in harmony. But Mordel has been raised in a family that has never forgotten their stolen throne...and never forgiven.
In a devious bid, Mordel enters the Dormis court and begins to charm everyone to her side. She marrys her greatest threat to keep him blind to her plots. Everything is going smoothly for Mordel--not even the birth of a daughter gets her off track.
And yet suddenly, Mordel's plans are discovered and she is banished from the kingdom. Or is she? Mordel waits in hiding for her revenge, and this time there will be no one to deny her the crown.

So there's your sneak-peak of one my works-in-progresses. This character is not in Moonscript, but her story does feature in the next project I will probably start after Moonscript!

Be sure to go over to Gillian's blog and check out her villain! Maybe next month, I'll be able to abide by the rules and dress up in a costume!
