Doctor Lewis has one thing left in the world--his young daughter, Bell. Now he prepares to give her up so she can have a future oversea in the mainland away from the rugged frontier. But as they travel across a savage mountain range with a band of soldiers and miners, Bell comes to adore an enslaved centaur--a creature said to be nothing more than a vicious beast despite its part-human appearance. When Bell's life is endangered, will her father be able to overcome the lie and see that the monster is a man?
Seeking a home away from deep hurt, Armel and his maimed father run afoul a cruel village living under the shadow of a dark castle rumored to be ruled by an evil, enchanted queen. To save his father's life, Armel is forced to enter the castle as an offering for their offense, but once inside, he discovers the queen would rather have him gone. Caught by fear and intrigue, he determines to break her spell by learning to truly love her. But no greater challenge has he ever undertook nor has he been met by greater resistance.
For she deserves Death. And Death draws ever nigh...
What about you? Are you working on some stories for the contest? Care to share? :)

Sounds cool! I'm working on two right now; I've finished the first draft of one and plan on beginning the other soon. Rewrites worry me, though. : ( I'm never sure what to rewrite and what to leave be.
Both of these sound ridiculously awesome. :) I still haven't started my entries- I promised myself I'd finish at least one other WIP first. *sigh*
Those both sound really cool! :P I love the innocent picture of Bell and the centaur. :) So sweet!
I finished my entry, Glass Rose, about a month ago. I'm excited to see how it is turning out. :)
Hope all the writing goes well! I still have to get cracking on these two also. :)
That's great, Anna!
These sound really neat. Love the covers you've come up with.
I've decided to work on two of my ideas for the contest, and then, once those are finished, work on my other ideas.
Those covers... O_O
Wow.
Look who says she doesn't like centaurs! :)
Thank you!
@Ghost: Haha, yes. Ashlee Willis changed my mind. ;)
I really like the idea for the first one (and the drawing!). I happen to be partial to things that include Greek myth.
Thanks! Though having Centaurs, it's actually quite far from Greek myth. It really surprised me by developing a Western/Pioneer flavor. Who knew?
Ahhhhhhhhhhggggg.
I really, really need to work on mine.
I really want to finish it.
You can do it, Berea! :D
Hannah, these sound wonderful! And so original! I have never heard of a B&B retelling that is not a love story, but "Centaur" sounds amazing--the pure love of a child is extremely powerful. And it is neat that you turned it into a beastly queen in "Thorn."
(Sorry to post twice, I caught a typo).
Thank you so much, Gwen! :D
Oh, my! What intriguing-sounding premises! I like that Centaur will feature Belle's father traveling with her along with the "beast" character. Neat that they'll all get to know each other on the quest. And, I love the Thorn premise. Such a neat twist to have the "beauty" character be the "beast" character. At least, that's what it sounds like you're doing. Will be praying for your writing.
Am planning, Lord willing, to submit one entry this year and am really working on the revisions. It's a story with characters I'm extremely attached to, (even the villains), so I really want this story to be free of "plot holes" and character inconsistencies before I send it in. I actually tried my hand at sympathetic villains this time, (not something I usually do). I'm trying to focus on character-driven material since characters are what drive stories. I sometimes forget that, so this story's been a challenge but super fun to write. God bless.
Wow!!! Love it and sounds so enticing! :D
Ooooo! Love those covers and plot lines! You are SO creative!!! :)
I've said it before, but I simply CANNOT wait till you're done writing both of these. They're both so unique and epic sounding! And you know how I love your artistry... :)
Oooh, I love the sound of both of these premises! And I'm super jealous of your drawing ability :)
I've finally begun work in earnest on my story. Not sure yet how to summarize it... that usually comes later. I'll be sharing an excerpt later this week on my blog.
